Yet another month comes to an end. Great time to take 30 minutes out of your day and reflect about what you have accomplished this last month. 5 years ago, I took a leadership seminar about lifestyle design. I was only 22, so I really didn't understand all that the presenter was trying to tell me. However, Now I totally comprehend everything.
Have you ever felt like you are doing everything that you can to get by? In his Lecture, Dennis Wong differentiated between two different types of living: Those that are living their life in survival mode, and those that were living their life in discovery mode.
I didn't understand it at the time, however, I was recently confronted with this when I started working at my last job. To feel like I was at my job and "barely" scraping by was a horrible feeling. Somehow it made the days seem longer, and the months almost too much. I have never put all of my eggs in one basket, but with that position I did. Had to learn the hard way I guess. Jim Rohn Summed it up the best by saying "Too much month at the end of the money". I found myself having to take advances and borrowing from different credit cards to make things work. And at the end of the month, I would feel like I did what I had to do to survive. And that I had passed another month to wait a day or two for the next month to come by. The cycle starts again. New stimulants and situations become magnified and everything seems like it is almost too much for you to handle. That's when you find yourself wishing for things. The lotto winnings, some massive inheritance, marrying into money, or that next million dollar idea to suddenly make you money.
On the other hand:
Those that live in discovery mode are those that take chances and risks. Those that have the ability to push themselves to have multiple channels of income, Or something residual, or someone to outsource to. They discover new things. Furthermore, When you "seek to understand before being understood" as Socrates would say. Your mind is more open and willing to accept new things. New stimulants create new Synapses in your brain, and ultimately, you can lead yourself to an entirely new life.
Can you imagine, that instead of seeing all that you had to do or face in your life, and getting that knot in your stomach.....Being able to look at the same wonderful chaos, and be willing to take it on, and get it done? With no fear, only certainty? In discovery mode, you understand that you are going to experience changes, and trials, and failures, yet you persevere.
You learn to get from the day instead of getting through the day.
You learn how to allocate funds properly, instead of throwing money to put fires out.
You learn how to interpret new challenges and situations as things that will make you become more instead of things that you "have to deal with, but don't want to."
Ultimately, you learn how to grow thorough things, instead of trying to preserve what little you have.
So, let life touch you. Be thankful for the challenges that you are facing, and those that you have overcome. Be in discovery mode, anxious to find new things. Anxious to have new experiences.
And always remember......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift......That's why they call it the present.
To your success,
JC
